CASCADE STREET STATION
About Us
WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
Cascade Street Station was the former Northern Pacific Railroad passenger and freight depot for Fergus Falls and the surrounding area.
Steel Wheels and Dining Car #423 are located in the historic Cascade Street Station at 423 S Cascade Street in downtown Fergus Falls, Minnesota just across the tracks from the town’s Public Library.
In 2012 we began restoration and refurbishment of the Northern Pacific Railway Station.
Cascade Street Station was the former Northern Pacific Railroad passenger and freight depot for Fergus Falls and the surrounding area. It has a local and state historical designation, as well as a listing on the National Register of Historical places. The original depot was a beautiful Edwardian Era brick structure with many of the prohibition era design features carefully restored and maintained.
It now incorporates the original ticket office, passenger waiting rooms, baggage handling area, freight warehouse and restored loading docks/grounds into a modern, repurposed bar/restaurant/event structure.
The building was constructed in 1920 after the devastating "Cyclone" of June 22, 1919 destroyed the previous structure.
THE DEPOT TODAY
The Cascade Street Station has been a Fergus Falls landmark for over 100 years.
Now, the rooms and hallways in the refurbished building are designed and maintained to reflect the commercial/industrial architectural style of an earlier time period. They are decorated with RR photos and artifacts that depict and help interpret the local, state and national history of the Northern Pacific Railway.
Many of the menu items offered at Steel Wheel and Dining Car #423 reflect the dining and cocktail options which were available on the bygone NP transcontinental passenger trains.

Hats off to Craig and Anna Gantner for taking on the Cascade Street Station in Fergus Falls. The former 5,600-square-foot railroad depot with charming architecture next to the Public Library was for more than a century an institution in Fergus Falls.
In 2012, Craig and Anna Gantner began restoration and refurbishment of the Northern Pacific Railway Station located on south Cascade Street in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.
